Often, in common stories, people write off Antoni Gaud\u00ed as an odd genius, a strange hermit, or a visionary isolated from the world. But if we reduce Gaud\u00ed to this superficial clich\u00e9, we miss the most fascinating part of his story: his extraordinary humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Truth Kept by Friends: The Personal Gaud\u00ed<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To understand the sacred scenery of Barcelona, you have to leave behind textbook definitions and step into the most authentic, hidden side of the architect. You need to discover the personal Gaud\u00ed. Despite the legend that paints him as a grumpy, lonely man, the stories of those who spent time with him every day show us a completely different picture. This authentic face emerges beautifully in the book <em>&#8220;My Gaud\u00ed. The biography written by his friends&#8221;<\/em> by architect and researcher Chiara Curti. The strength of this book lies in its choice of texts: it is not a cold, traditional biography, but a collection of unpublished writings, notes, and memories signed by the people who stood by him every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chiara Curti shows us the man behind the stone, presenting the everyday gestures rather than a living monument: his daily evening stops at the church of Sant Felip Neri, his long walks through the streets of a Barcelona in full industrial revolution, and his amazing ability to make himself loved by everyone who worked with him. We discover a Gaud\u00ed with a deep sense of humor, capable of disarming tenderness with the site workers, whom he considered his real family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gaud\u00ed preferred to surround himself with genuine people: the young architects, sculptors, and craftspeople who worked in his studio. For these young collaborators, he was a mentor rather than a teacher. It is no coincidence that they called themselves true disciples and not just helpers: nobody simply copied his style, because everyone deeply understood his mindset. Through these pages emerges a mystic who did not seek the completion of the Sagrada Fam\u00edlia or earthly fame. For him, that huge work belonged to no one but God, who had simply chosen him as his collaborator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Teacher on Site: The &#8220;Cathedral of the Poor&#8221;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sagrada Fam\u00edlia was born to be the Cathedral of the Poor\u2014not only because it stood in a humble neighborhood, but because of how life was lived on site. In a time of strong social divides, where the rich were strictly separated from the public, Gaud\u00ed broke every rule. For him, human relationships and community bonds were fundamental, long before the building itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He turned the site into a workshop for artisans and stood alongside the workers like a father figure. Rather than telling them what to do, he showed them patiently how to do it, leaving them free to express themselves. In a time when factory work made people feel like machines, Gaud\u00ed used a revolutionary method based on freedom and dignity, even introducing a fixed monthly pay to save artists from financial worry. He looked for the divine and the genuine in every person, to the point of using the workers themselves as real models for his sculptures: his chief sculptor, Lloren\u00e7 Matamala, lent his own face to several sacred characters on the Nativity facade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This deep care for others did not stop at the site gates; it translated into daily charity and a life lived without shortcuts. Gaud\u00ed chose not to marry, but his idea was one of true community. After taking care of his very sick niece Rosa for years, in his final years he moved directly into his site workshop, sharing daily life and simple needs with his workers&#8217; families. Historical moments remained etched in Barcelona&#8217;s memory, such as his extreme fasting for Lent in 1894 that nearly killed him\u2014broken only thanks to the pleas of his mentor, Bishop Torras i Bages\u2014or his very humble end. Gaud\u00ed didn&#8217;t design to impress critics or seek fame; he built, quite literally, to talk with God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Sagrada Fam\u00edlia: Directing the Spirit<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you understand this deep intimacy and care for the humble, the Sagrada Fam\u00edlia reveals itself for what it truly is: a huge, living liturgy. Gaud\u00ed did not live to see the colors of today\u2019s stained glass\u2014created masterfully in modern times by artist Joan Vila-Grau\u2014but he designed the conceptual plan for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The architect left precise instructions: the morning sun had to hit the Nativity facade, bursting into cold tones of blue and green (symbol of birth), while the setting sun had to light up the Passion facade with the reds and oranges of sacrifice. Vila-Grau translated this vision into an abstract symphony: a sacred drama played out every day by light, designed by Gaud\u00ed to touch the deepest parts of the visitor&#8217;s heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the secret that makes his architecture timeless: the absolute harmony between the man, his community, and his work. When he died in 1926, hit by a tram while walking to the church of Sant Felip Neri as he did every evening, he carried no riches with him\u2014only the Gospels in his pocket. It is precisely this unbreakable link between technical skill and human depth that I try to share on my tours, offering keys to understand his work in all its artistic and spiritual complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Behind the Scenes of the Tour:<\/strong> Would you like to look beyond the surface of the genius?
